Lincoln, the cathedral city in the East Midlands, dates back to the Iron Ages. Its many historic buildings and its annual Christmas Market in the Bailgate area, attract national and international tourists eager to experience the city’s notable charm. Separated by the River Witham, the city of Lincoln is divided into two parts: the historical quarter and residential suburbs are located to the north, the “Uphill” part; the city center and suburbs to the south are referred to as “Uphill”. The two parts are connected by “Steep Hill”. Street names such as Flaxengate and Danesgate are derived from the Viking period. During this time, it became an important trading center, particularly for Lincoln’s own mint.
